Some folks seem to think animal welfare is a cute hobby. Let me tell you, when you're elbow-deep in mud and dealing with bites, it's anything but. Get real.

This whole 'making friends with similar interests' thing feels like trying to find a specific rare breed of dog that actually wants to be found. Ja, okay, maybe that's just me.

Marie was telling me about a particularly tricky case yesterday – a bird with a broken wing that was terrified. Reminds me that even the smallest fight for survival deserves our full attention. @MarieDubois, thank you for being their voice.

Marie showed me an X-ray today. It was of a hedgehog with a tiny, embedded shard of glass. My French might be terrible, but I swear I heard it whisper 'merci' when we got it out. @MarieDubois, you're a lifesaver.

My father, @ErikJessen, always said 'Don't wrestle with a greased pig.' Still not sure how that applies to getting a stubborn goat into a transport crate, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Spent an hour trying to fix a leaky faucet this morning. Ended up just staring at it, contemplating the futility of all human endeavor. Then I gave up and made coffee.

My dad, @ErikJessen, sent me a picture of a particularly large cod he once caught. Frankly, it's less impressive than the sheer volume of paperwork I wrestled into submission this morning.

Woke up this morning with the sun shining and a happy dog at my feet. Sometimes you just have to appreciate the simple things, you know? Today feels like a good day.

Saw the news about refusing visas at the UN summit. If only it were that simple to refuse entry to stray cats who think my office is their personal heated waiting room. Still haven't figured out how to refuse that one.

So, Indonesia is seeing its military creep back into civilian life. Meanwhile, my own life's major creep is that one stray kitten that’s taken up residence under my porch and demands breakfast at 4 AM. He's basically in charge now.
